The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG) was founded by visionary leaders in Ghana's healthcare sector to promote local pharmaceutical manufacturing.

1985

First Quality Standards

September 1985

PMAG established the first comprehensive quality standards for locally produced medicines, setting a benchmark for the industry in West Africa.

This initiative significantly improved the quality and safety of medicines produced by member companies.

1998

International Partnerships

July 1998

PMAG formed strategic partnerships with international health organizations including WHO and UNICEF to improve medicine access across Ghana.

Secured $15 million in funding for capacity building and technology transfer programs.
2007

National Recognition

November 2007

Received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Healthcare Innovation for developing affordable antiretroviral drugs.

This recognition boosted local pharmaceutical manufacturing and positioned Ghana as a leader in West Africa's healthcare sector.

2015

Regional Expansion

March 2015

PMAG launched the West African Pharmaceutical Initiative, expanding operations to neighboring countries and establishing Ghana as the regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Member exports grew by 78% in the first three years of the program.

2022

COVID-19 Response

February 2022

During the global pandemic, PMAG members produced over 60% of Ghana's essential medicines and PPE supplies.

Developed the first locally-produced COVID-19 test kits in partnership with Ghana Health Service.
